Our program.
Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science serves grades 6–8 with a STEM-focused, college-preparatory program built in partnership with Howard University. Our program blends a rigorous mathematics and science core with a STEM-based, interdisciplinary approach that connects science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to real-world problem-solving — rather than teaching them as separate subjects.
Every scholar benefits from small, team-taught cohorts, hands-on project-based learning, and access to Howard University faculty, labs, and mentors. Our approach to curriculum and staff development is designed to help scholars build a strong academic foundation, a strong work ethic, and the confidence to pursue STEM coursework and careers in high school and beyond.

World languages
Junior Bison have the opportunity to learn foreign languages. In French class, scholars learn how to greet one another, talk about their families, order food at a restaurant, and much more. Scholars in French class have traveled to Paris and experienced French culture here in Washington, DC through a partnership with the Alliance Française.
In Spanish class, scholars learn to describe who they are, what they like and dislike, and how to greet one another — and how to shop in a grocery store. Junior Bison in Spanish class have traveled to Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico, where they lived in a village, interacted with families, and completed a service project building an outdoor stove for several families.
