The Summit Learning approach to teaching and learning is based on developing four key student outcomes:

  • Cognitive Skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication, that equip students with essential and transferable lifelong skills necessary to navigate college and careers;
  • Content Knowledge helps
    students understand and navigate not only academic subjects but the world around them;
  • Habits of Success and social-emotional skills such as resilience, social awareness and a sense of belonging designed to help students make good choices;
  • Sense of Purpose where students develop an understanding of their passions, interests and how they can apply these to their lives and well-being.

Many (MS)² scholars are provided an opportunity to take Spanish, Computer Skills, Physical Education and Health, and technology and engineering courses through Project Lead the Way.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1455192302689{padding-top: 45px !important;padding-bottom: 100px !important;background-color: #ffffff !important;}”][vc_column offset=”vc_col-lg-7 vc_col-md-6 vc_col-xs-12″][thim-heading title=”Our Expanded Academics Offerings” title_uppercase=”” clone_title=”” line=””][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#040b39″][vc_column_text]Our goal is for all of our students to complete Algebra 1, demonstrating mastery through a comprehensive end of course exam. To achieve this goal, we begin with pre-algebra in the 6th grade and culminate with Algebra 1 in the 8th grade. Many of our students have the option of taking Spanish starting in the 6th grade with the goal of receiving a credit for high school level Spanish 1 by the end of the 8th grade. Our partnership with Howard University provides some of our students the opportunity to take Latin and to be tutored by graduate students in the HU Spanish language program. Creative writing prepares our students for the rigor of high school and post-secondary writing requirements.  Physical education and health are offered at all grade levels. We provide a variety of intervention courses in reading that includes Wilson Reading and ILit, and Transitions to Algebra for mathematics. Goalbook Toolkit also provides additional supports in both English Language Arts and mathematics. Our students have the opportunity to experience college-level classes and activities through our partnership with Howard University.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column offset=”vc_col-lg-5 vc_col-md-6 vc_col-xs-12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][stm_text_box title_tag=”h3″ sep_color=”custom” title_color=”custom” stm_bg_color=”green” sep_enable=”true” title=”Important Resources” sep_color_custom=”#ffffff” title_color_custom=”#ffffff”]
