The Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science E=(MS)2

Parents are an Important Part of (MS)2‘s Success Equation

(MS)2’s program relies heavily on parent support and involvement as another tool to foster student success. Research shows that students with involved parents are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades and test scores
  • Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits
  • Attend school regularly
  • Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school
  • Graduate and go on to post secondary education

Parent Engagement

(MS)2 offers a wide variety of opportunities for parents to participate in school activities. Every year we aim to grow our parent engagement program to ensure that every stakeholder understands their role and importance as a member of the educational community.

Parent engagement at (MS)2 includes:

  • Parent workshops
  • Volunteerism
  • Community-wide activities
  • Parent involvement on school improvement committees
  • Parent-Principal Partnership (P3) Meetings
  • Monthly newsletter

Parent Expectations

Engagement necessitates a two-way communication and support system. While (MS)2  maintains its commitment to provide opportunities for parents to remain engaged, we similarly expect that parents will play their part as well!

Engaged parents:

  • Keep contact information updated
  • Review all communication from (MS)2
  • Communicate with staff in a respectful manner
  • Participate in at least one (1) activity per month
  • Ensure your child is on time and prepared daily
  • Uphold/support all (MS)2 policies at home
  • Communicate all personal challenges that may impact your child’s ability to be successful

Access Powerschool regularly for updates on your child’s progress as well as daily school announcements and updates.
