At Howard University Middle School, we believe in nurturing the whole student through innovative and engaging learning experiences. Thanks to the Flextime Grant from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), we offered “Flextime Friday” — a day dedicated to providing students with a diverse range of activities that extend beyond the traditional classroom. From creative arts and STEM workshops to physical activities and leadership development sessions, our students explored new interests, built new skills, and connected with peers.
For our teachers, Flextime Friday served as a valuable flex day, allowing them the space to engage in wellness and personal growth. This unique initiative reflects our commitment to fostering a dynamic educational environment that supports both students and educators.
This is a pilot program we are trying out that gives ½ of teachers a day off on flextime Friday’s and the other ½ of teachers a day off during the next flextime Friday. Here is a link to an overview of the program from OSSE.
